Our story
A house built like a letter — slowly, by hand.
Southern Sage began as a passion project between my husband and I — a shared dream to create a home that felt rooted, peaceful, and deeply connected to the land around it.
I’m Canadian, he’s from Los Angeles, and together we’ve always been drawn to places with a sense of soul: wide-open landscapes, thoughtful design, good food, beautiful spaces, quiet mornings, and the kind of travel that makes you notice the details. In 2021, we moved to Austin, and spent the next few years living in different communities, searching for the place that finally felt like home to us and our little family of three dogs — Archie, Brodie, and Cooper.
Set among rolling hills, dark skies, live oaks, longhorns, jackrabbits, foxes, and the occasional cactus bloom, Dripping Springs had the rare feeling of being both wild and welcoming. When we found a plot of land tucked against an expansive protected greenbelt, we knew we had found the place to build our peaceful escape.

We named our home after the sage thrasher — an unassuming bird that lives close to the land, moving lightly and singing before first light. It became our emblem of beauty, place, and daily renewal.
Southern Sage is the record of that process — from lot selection and construction to fixtures, finishes, landscaping, textiles, interiors, and the moodboards behind every decision. It is part design journal, part resource library, and part love letter to building a home slowly and intentionally. We hope it’s useful to someone standing in a green patch with a bold vision and a tape measurer.
This is our little corner of the Texas Hill Country. A home built from the ground up, one choice at a time. We’re excited to share it with you.
